Scanning 8mm films this morning.
@jack do you have a 8mm scanner?
@oyam Yes, it’s a Retro-8 from MovieStuff. Working through my grandfather’s home movies. Also his movie club films: http://www.youtube.com/watch
@jack on nice! I ended up using a projector with custom LED lamp and projected on the sensor of my DSLR. I also ended up removing the mask to get the full frames and cropping in post when desired. Most I kept full frame with the hole, though.

@jack This is on my project list as I received a bunch of old 8mm (Super 8) from my late aunt. Dates to the 1940s and 1950s. I don’t have a scanner at the moment, however – Everything go well for you?
@seansharp The scanner works pretty well. The software is janky, though. For 16mm films I used LegacyBox (https://legacybox.com/). Gets pricey but they did a nice job.
@jack OK – thanks for the info. I’m hoping I can find something on the campus where I work that can do the job. We’ll see . . .
